About Me.

Music has always been a part of my life. At age three I started tap dance lessons and at five began piano because we had one at home and I REALLY wanted to play it. A piano piece called “Harp Prelude” piqued my interest and at seven I started playing a small lever harp. As they say, the rest is history. I played the flute too because I wanted to be in the marching band at school but it was the harp that kept my attention.

I was very fortunate to study with Carlos Salzedo, a world-renowned harpist and teacher, in New York City. Under his tutelage I performed in Town Hall and was the top winner of the Feis Music Festival. I also performed with orchestras in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. My formal harp education took place at Cleveland Institute of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and the Summer Harp Colony of America in Camden, Maine.

After college I moved to Hawaii to be first harpist of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra. During the summers I performed at restaurants and hotels and thus my repertoire increased from strictly classical to movie and Broadway themes. Hawaii became a wedding destination and I enjoyed playing for many beautiful weddings on all of the islands. I also had the opportunity to perform for functions for the Governor of Hawaii and the Mayor of Honolulu as well as dignitaries who visited such as President Bush and Lady Thatcher. Flutist Susan Gillespie and I produced 7 recordings and our wedding music album won the Na Hoku Hanohano award for the best instrumental album of the year. This is Hawaii’s annual award honoring achievements of excellence in the recording arts. I was also featured as one of eight showcase harpists from around the world at the International Pop and Jazz Harpfest in Tucson.

Since moving to Seattle I have performed as a member of the Ladies’ Musical Club of Seattle, have served as President of the American Harp Society Greater Seattle Chapter, am the Northwest Regional Director of the National American Harp Society, co-editor of the non-profit website Harp Spectrum devoted to harp education and coordinator of music in the public schools. Last year I was part of the cast in Deborah Henson-Conant’s new musical “In the Wings”. I am the adjunct Professor of Harp at Seattle Pacific University. Some of my private students perform together as the Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble.
