I cannot begin to tell you how much you mean to me! You have walked through my musical career with me and shaped my idea of what it means to be a musician. I admire your dedication and, of course, your skills as a harpist. Because of you I am where I am today. You encourage me to be the best that I can!

We are lucky to have such a dedicated and promising student as Joseph in our organization, and he is lucky to be receiving such fine instruction from you! I am looking forward to Marrowstone 2009 and working with Joseph as always!
Music Director,
Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras

We wish to thank you for your kindness and gentle guidance of both of our daughters, your endless patience and generosity and your beautiful smile. It is both a joy and an honor to have you in our lives.

Thank you for all your dedication to helping our daughter become a fine musician and realizing her dreams to become a music therapist. You are an amazing person, patient and persistent.

Wherever I land, I know I will miss being your student. Thank you for always being there for me. Your support and guidance have kept me going all along the way. Not only have you made me a better harpist but you have also made me a better person. You have been the best teacher I could ever have.

The Church congregation was again wow'ed by our daughter's performance on the harp. One person even called up that night and said she was so moved by the performance that she immediately purchased a Harp CD that had the piece she had played.  Of course, this really is a testament to your lessons, and we appreciate all that you do.

Harp Lessons For All Ages And Abilities.

When I consider what teaching means to me, the immediate word that comes to mind is “rewarding”. Each student comes from a different beginning, has specific ideas about the goals that he or she hopes to reach and only so many hours a day to accomplish this, whether it is for pure enjoyment or a desire to pursue the harp as a career. I respect these desires and individualize each "one on one" lesson accordingly.

During my time in Hawaii I had over 50 students, some as young as three and some who had already retired but had always wanted to play the harp. We formed a harp ensemble, Sweetharps of Hawaii, that performed at many functions from accompanying medieval dinners to being the featured entertainment at Ala Moana Shopping Center. Some of these students have gone on to perform professionally in Hawaii and on the mainland.

Since moving to Seattle I have taught over 40 students from age 7 and up. Some of these students have performed with the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra and the Cascade Youth Symphony, as well as their school orchestras. One of my students who graduated from high school last year is playing with 3 orchestras at Yale University. Our ensemble, the Northwest Youth Harp Ensemble has performed in libraries and churches as well as being featured on the local TV show Crescendo. You can see some selections on YouTube as well as solos. I would be happy to provide you with further information.

As with my students in Hawaii, some of them are playing for their own satisfaction and personal goals. I feel that two important aspects of lessons are to build trust and to have fun learning. I like to instill correct technique and incorporate theory and history into the lessons too. I offer a "get acquainted" lesson for students to experience the harp and to see if it is something they would like to pursue. Rental harps are readily available in the Seattle area if needed. Please contact me for more information. I would love to share the joy of harp playing with you.
